IKEA catalogue coming to iPhone

TAGS: None

Who doesn’t love IKEA? Now they are boldly going where lots of corporations have gone before and launching their very own app starting in the United Kingdom, in an obvious prelude to what will surely be coming to an iPhone or iPod Touch near you.

They are calling it a “clean and straightforward application that allows users to view the 2010 UK catalogue page by page”. I mean what would any self-respecting IKEA addict like myself not like about that? The whole catalogue? At my fingertips? Yes, please!

Though not exclusive as approach but nice to see in any case, the developers are actively encouraging input from users via twitter #ikeaappideas, email: ikeaappideas@cakegroup.com, or phone +44 0207 307 3132

The company recently led a successful Facebook campaign, created to promote the opening of a new store in Malmö. It’s nice to see them showing savvy by promoting their message -and products- across via the social networks.

And oh yes, it’s free.

The team at SchroederDev has updated Lyrics+ for iPhone and iPod touch.

As you might expect, this application allows users to find lyrics of the songs stored on their iPods using title, artist or lyrics. The app taps into the LyricFind database, which contains well over 1 million tracks from over 40,000 artists.

Apart from including a few system quality tweaks, the new version adds the ability to view previous searches while offline as well as the option of playing a song via Search if it’s in your library.

For $ 1.00 / € 1.59 users can appreciate the fact that the service is legal with a portion of the revenue generated by the app going to the respective songwriters.

Today I’m posting 3 delightful apps I’ve recently discovered and grown to really like.

StarTime

As my iPhone app addict husband quickly taught me, the App Store is chock full of apps that display time and time related stuff in really cool ways. I really like the look of StarTime – a Star Trek themed clock app for iPhone and iPod touch. The developers had hoped to have the app released for the movie earlier this year, but had a few rejection hurdles to overcome.

The app delights with appropriately geeky sounds paired with bright colours and blinking lights in a familiar Star Trek design. It does date and time but not much else. Settings allow you to turn on/off this or that effect. Future updates promise landscape mode, more skins and an alarm function. I kinda wish I could change colour scheme from purples to blues but that’s just me.

StarTime is available on the App Store for € 0.79 / $ 0.99

Yet another Twitter enabling app rears its pretty head, pushing Mentions and Direct Messages to your iPhone. iTweetreply packs these and other useful functions into a simple and useful twitter client.

I was used to getting DMs by email, which was already pretty convenient. My desire to be also notified of Mentions led me to voice this need aloud. Someone heard my cry cos along came a Facebook message with a prompt to check this app out.

It does what it promises quite well, giving you an easy and more direct way to keep up with your twitter conversations.

Mentions and DMs appear like SMS messages, prompting you to hit reply or close as needed.

Copyright © 2009 AliciaB. Visit the original article at http://justanotheriphoneblog.com/wordpress/iphone-application-reviews/quick-review-serenade-for-iphone/ .

Our modern cyberlife is increasingly about sharing what we’re doing or thinking with friends slash strangers on our social networks like facebook or twitter. The strange need to share what song is currently filling our universe has emerged, and the free iPhone and iPod Touch app Serenade lets you share the song you’re currently listening to on twitter or send to friend via email. You can also paste the song to clipboard for use in another app.

A nice touch about posting to twitter is that you can edit the tweet to ramble to your heart’s content. Also you can send just a Link to the iTunes Store, or choose to post Artist, Title and Link. Emailing posts artwork with the song information.

Serenade is straightforward app that does its job well. Future updates will include additional possibilities to post to facebook or link to other online music distributors. This is one App to keep.

Do YOU post your current songs to twitter or prefer to keep your musical reveries private? Let us know!

As the blog title suggests, here are 4 app picks for kids, currently available for free on the App Store.

1. ABC for me

Where was this app when I was teaching English to German-speaking kids here in Austria? ABC for me makes creating alphabet, number and other picture books and cards as easy as 1, 2, 3 ! And it’s easy for kids to use.

Features:

· 6 page styles

· 3 book types

· take pictures via camera or use stored images

· customizable captions

Pity you can’t send the image collections by email to be printed later. Perhaps in a future update.
