MUSIC NEWS - Starting November 16, Anjulie will join contemporary soul pioneer Raphael Saadiq on his upcoming tour of North America. The tour will help wrap up an impressive year for the young star.
This week it was announced that Anjulie’s surreal, Dali-inspired, Adria Petty directed music video for “Boom” is nominated for “Best Video Woodie” at the 2009 mtvU Woodie Awards, up against other amazing talent, Death Cab For Cutie, Matt and Kim, Dead Weather, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Kid Cudi. And, “Boom” was previously nominated for “Breakthrough Video” at this year’s VMAs.
Anjulie fuses world-music rhythms and Top 40 melodies that inspired her by growing up in Toronto, she creates imaginative songs underscoring her melodic gifts and crackle with provocative, confessional, lyrical word-play. Anjulie was recently selected as one of mtvU’s “Freshman 5”, one of five exciting new artists the channel believes are about to jump from college favorites to household names. mtvU also unveiled Anjulie’s new single “The Rain”, a flamenco-flavored, sophisticated urban gem that hits with the sharp initial blast of her contemporaries, M.I.A., Nelly Furtado and Corinne Bailey Rae.
