MUSIC NEWS - A stage that was under construction for Madonna's concert in the French port city of Marseille collapsed Thursday, resulting in one death two deaths (Live Nation employees) and six five injuries, according to the local fire department said. The Slade Velodrome stadium stage fell apart on top of several workers at 5:15 p.m. local time (11:15 a.m. EST). Two of the injuries were serious said Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux said and all injured were taken to local hospitals.  The identities of the dead and injured  have not yet been released and the cause of the collapse is not yet determined.

The Madonna "Sticky & Sweet" concert tour was to perform in Marseille on Sunday, but the concert has now been canceled due the accident, according to Maurice Di Nocera, Marseille city councilor in charge of major events. 

MADONNA issued this statement "I am devastated to have just received this tragic news." "My prayers go out to those who where injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news." (see video clip below)
