Sell Off Music

Music Sales by Way of Digital Distribution

Quick Thoughts on TuneCore

While this blog receives a fair number of hits from web searches for "CD Baby vs. TuneCore," until recently my direct experience has been one-sided. We used CD Baby for the digital distribution of our first three albums but we're using TuneCore for the first time to distribute our new holiday release.

Look for post next week about the relative strengths of each service, but before then, I'll just say that I'm very impressed with how quickly TuneCore-distributed material makes it into digital stores.

I uploaded the WAV files and cover art for "Maybe Next Year," by the Layaways, late Wednesday afternoon. It was available for sale at Amazon MP3 on Thursday evening (Thanksgiving day!). And it was also available within 48 hours at Napster and Lala.com. Still waiting on iTunes and eMusic (where we've sold the most downloads for our previous releases), but I'm amazed at the quick turnaround for those first few stores.
